Getting Unstuck

get unstuck - rescue yourselfMost of the people who come to see me at the clinic or make contact via the web, are stuck in some area of their lives.

Feeling stuck in a general way, or in just one particular area of life can be incredibly frustrating. Some people can become so focussed on the stuckness that they move themselves into a state of overwhelm.

Have you ever experienced this?

If you can step back, and look at things with a clear head, you will undoubtedly see all the ways in which you are free and flowing, and recognise the  things you do well.

When you refocus on your strengths, it might prompt you to wonder why on earth you just cant get over that one particular hump. Maybe you ask yourself what it is about that thing, issue, or situation that has you feeling powerless to breathe through or move forward, and usually it's just a belief that is holding you back.

I think most of us experience this sense of being unable to move forward, at some point in our lives, and when you're in that sticky spot it really is awful. So, when you're feeling overwhelmed, lacking in motivation and commitment, yet you know you just have to make a change, what can you do?

Here's a few things you might like to try;

  • Make a Pain List - Put a line in the middle of a piece of blank paper and on one side write down the name of the stuck spot. On the other side of the line write down all the pain, difficult and such that being 'stuck'is causing you so that you get really clear about the pain it is causing you.
  • Ask Yourself The Hard Question - What do I not have to do because I am stuck? In other words, tune in to find out what benefit you are getting from maintaing this state of stuckness.
  • Change One Thing - Choose one small thing in your life to change - it might be driving to work a different way for a week, or getting a hair cut. Just do something small that you can easily manage, because it is a start. It's ok to start small, you're still creating evidence that things can be different.
  • Make It Physical - Shake out the stuckness, it's a great way to start your day perhaps - it's simple, you can do it anywhere and it costs nothing. First, mentally relax your muscles, open your joints, and starting from the feet moving upwards, you move your attention to a part of the body and gently beging to shake it. First one body part, then the next. The idea is that you are releasing any stuck 'energy' that is stored in the body and the benefits are said to be myriad; detoxification of cells, release of stress and tension, increased blood flow just to name a few.
  • Aromatherapy Oils - Essential oils have wonderful healing properties and provide support on all levels; physical, emotional and mental. A lovely combination of oils to use in an oil burner to get yourself unstuck would be Eucalyptus Blue Gum, Lime and Juniperberry. I'd go with 3 drops of cold pressed Lime, 2 drops of the Juniperberry and 2 drops of the Blue Gum Eucalyptus with water in the top of an oil burner - and you can adjust the quantities to suit your preferences.

Do have a play with these little tools for change, and give me a hoi if you would like some help. In the end, getting unstuck happens when the pain of where you are is greater than the pain of changing your behaviours.

Warmest to You,

Karen
