So Many Books, So Little Time

I dont know about you, but as a book lover, this could be my mantra ' So many books and so little time'...
There are SO many self help books. One of the things that really stands out to me is that many of them pre-suppose that there is something wrong with you. Thats actually what is wrong, because there is nothing wrong with You. I mean that.
It is a fact, you are already awesome, and maybe you want more awesome, or more, ' something,' and that is where books, coaching, workshops, documentaries and special shows and programs can come in; they can shine a light on what can be.
I think that books, and movies for that matter, provide an opportunity for us to;
- Gather new data
- Consider alternate ideas and concepts
- Be entertained
- Stretch our minds and our ideas about what might be possible
Here are some of the books I love;
- A Guide for the Advanced Soul by Susan Hayward - Open a page and read what's there. It's like food.
- Women who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes - This is full of myths and stories that are a delight to read.
- The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman - I recommend this book to so many people, it's just brilliant for getting a handle on what makes you tick, as well as your partner.
Here are some shows to expand the mind;
- Food Inc. - This shows, unfortunately in technicolour, how our food is being mass produced and controlled by just a handful of major corporations.
- That Sugar Film - A genuine expose' on sugar. What we think of as healthy foods are quite often not and Damon who is the star of the show changes his own diet and demonstrates the effects of a high sugar diet on a healthy body. If you are thinking about lowering your sugar intake, getting a copy of this program will help. I got mine from JB Hifi.
- Eat Pray Love - Perceived as a bit of a chick flick, this movie with Julia Roberts as leading lady is much more. Through her physical journey that was prompted by emotional dissatisfaction and a sense of emptiness in her seemingly 'successful life' she finds what she was looking for - herself.
At the moment Im reading a book by Mark Manson called 'The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck - A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life'. Still in the early stages with it at the moment, but it is funny, informative and obviously irreverant - but also full of sensible and useful insights. If you are intrigued you can get a copy from Amazon and I think they have copies at the Angus & Robertson store locally too.
